Weddings

Balquhidder, Killin and Morenish

May we first express our joy and good wishes to you both,

as together you make plans for your wedding.

Marriage is a creation ordinance

Marriage is a gift from God

Your wedding marks the beginning of a new family

At a wedding in church we acknowledge the presence of God

In so doing we acknowledge that Almighty God is sovereign over the whole of life

In the service we ask God’s blessing upon your future life together

Contact your local minister

If either of you are normally resident in the Parish of Balquhidder or the Parish of Killin and Ardeonaig please see me after a Sunday service and arrange an appointment to discuss your plans.

If neither of you are normally resident in the parishes contact me as soon as possible to make preliminary arrangements (details on the home page).

If you live in Scotland you may wish to have your own Parish Minister conduct the service.  If you wish me to conduct your wedding please make this clear.

If neither of you are resident in Scotland contact me as soon as possible (details on the home page). I may be able to conduct your wedding, but you must discuss the matter with me first. It would also be a good idea to contact your own Parish Minister, and ask about marriage preparation and church membership in your home area.

You and your local church

If you are not a regular attender at church, we suggest that you make every effort to attend Sunday worship in your local church. (Killin at 10.00 am, Balquhidder at noon)

If you are not an active communicant member of the church, we suggest that you give serious consideration at this time to what part ‘the church’ is going to have in your future family life.

Why do you wish to marry in the church?

If you marry in the “sight of God” - what part will He play in your future lives together?

If a church wedding is important for you,

Shouldn’t the same opportunity be there for your children in years to come?

Are you ready to play your part - actively supporting your local church?

The service

A wedding is a religious service. As a Church of Scotland minister, the service offered will be a Christian Marriage ceremony in accordance with the practice and procedure of the Church of Scotland.  The wedding service will be conducted in one of the Parish Churches, or Morenish chapel.

Link to an outline of the Service.

I do not normally preach at weddings, however we do have readings are from the Bible. A friend may read from the Bible at the service. Bible readings are discussed as part of the preparation.

Passages from other sources are more appropriate during the speeches at the reception.

It is inappropriate for the wedding party and congregation to be distracted during a religious service by photography (either still or video). With prior permission it is possible to video the service as long as it is non-intrusive. However, during the signing of “The Schedule” and after the service I am quite happy that photographs be taken inside the church.

Requests for other forms of service should be made to the respective denomination.

You should contact the appropriate Registrar at least 3 weeks before the wedding.

You must collect the wedding “Schedule” in person from the Registrar

during the week prior to the wedding.
